Angels and mediumship: Understanding their role in spirit communication by Psychic Medium Kristian von Sponneck

Introduction: Angels and Mediumship Are Often Confused
The subject of angels frequently comes up when people talk about mediumship. Many assume that angels and Spirit communication are the same thing, or that a medium must work with angels to connect properly. In reality, angels and mediumship are often misunderstood and incorrectly blended together. Clarifying the difference between angels, Spirit, and mediumship helps remove confusion and brings a more grounded understanding of how Spirit communication actually works.
What Angels Are Believed to Be in Spiritual Understanding
Angels are generally described as higher spiritual beings that have never lived a human life. Unlike loved ones in Spirit, angels are not connected to families, relationships, memories, or shared human experiences. Because of this, they do not communicate in the same way as Spirit communicators. Mediumship is based on human experience and recognition, while angels are believed to operate on a broader, non-human level.
What Mediumship Really Involves
Mediumship is the communication between the living and those who have lived a physical life and have now crossed into Spirit. This communication is evidence-led and personal. It includes memories, personality traits, emotional bonds, and recognisable information that can be validated by the sitter. This is a key distinction, because angels do not bring forward this type of personal evidence.
Why Angels Rarely Communicate in Mediumship Readings
Many people expect angels to step forward during a mediumship reading, often influenced by spiritual books or popular culture. In practice, angels do not usually communicate in a conversational or evidential way. When people report angelic presence, it is more often described as a feeling of calm, protection, or reassurance rather than a clear exchange of information. This type of experience is very different from mediumship communication.
Where Confusion Commonly Arises
Confusion often occurs when people label any spiritual sensation as angelic. Feelings of peace, warmth, or safety are sometimes assumed to be angels, when they may actually come from intuition, emotional processing, or the presence of Spirit. This does not make the experience invalid, but it highlights the importance of discernment. Not every spiritual feeling needs to be given an external explanation.
My Perspective as a Psychic Medium
From my standpoint as a working psychic medium, I do not actively work with angels during mediumship. My connection is direct with Spirit communicators, not angelic beings. The information I receive is personal, specific, and grounded in human experience. Introducing angels into that process would not enhance clarity or evidence and can sometimes blur the boundaries between belief and genuine Spirit communication.
Belief Versus Mediumship
Belief in angels can be deeply comforting and meaningful for many people. Angels are often associated with protection, guidance, and reassurance, especially during difficult periods. However, belief and mediumship are not the same. Mediumship relies on communication that can be recognised, understood, and validated through lived experience, rather than faith-based interpretation alone.
Angels as Symbolic Figures Rather Than Communicators
For some people, angels function more effectively as symbols rather than literal beings. They can represent intuition, conscience, higher awareness, or inner guidance. When understood symbolically, angels fit more naturally within psychological and intuitive frameworks. This symbolic role is very different from the role of Spirit communicators in mediumship.
Why Discernment Matters in Spiritual Development
A key part of mediumship development is learning to distinguish between imagination, intuition, emotional response, and genuine Spirit communication. Without discernment, it becomes easy to misinterpret experiences and assign meanings that may not be accurate. Clear boundaries protect both the medium and the person receiving a reading, and they preserve the integrity of the work.
Angels and Mediumship Are Not Dependent on Each Other
Mediumship does not require angels to function. It stands on its own as a form of Spirit communication rooted in human connection. Angels, if they exist in the way many believe, operate separately and with a different purpose. Keeping these concepts distinct helps avoid confusion and allows mediumship to remain clear, honest, and evidence-based.
Conclusion: Clarity Strengthens Mediumship
Angels and mediumship are often spoken about together, but they are not the same and do not need to be combined. Mediumship is about connection, recognition, and communication with those who have lived human lives. Angels may hold personal or symbolic meaning for some, but mediumship remains grounded in shared human experience. Understanding this distinction strengthens spiritual awareness and preserves the integrity of genuine Spirit communication.
