The Real Threat to Mediumship Isn’t Sceptics — It’s Other Mediums
The real threat to mediumship isn’t sceptics — it’s other mediums by Kristian von Sponneck, Psychic Medium & Psychic Entertainer
Here’s the uncomfortable truth most mediums will never admit publicly:
Mediumship isn’t being destroyed by sceptics. It’s being destroyed by mediums.
Not the honest ones.
Not the evidential ones.
Not the trained ones.
But by ego-driven performers, TikTok theatrics, untrained “intuitives,” and — most dangerously of all — the new breed of “research mediums.”
This problem is internal.
And it’s rotting the field from the inside out.
Mediumship Has Become a Competition, Not a Calling
Instead of serving Spirit, too many mediums serve themselves.
They chase:
applause
validation
likes
bookings
attention
And instead of supporting each other, mediums tear one another down, gossip, compete, and copy.
Spirit is about unity.
Mediumship today is about popularity.
The Rise of the “Research Medium” — The Most Dangerous Threat of All
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room:
mediums who secretly research their audience before a show or a private reading.
This isn’t intuition.
This isn’t Spirit.
This isn’t psychic ability.
It’s data theft dressed up as mediumship.
They:
go through social media
check Facebook photos
look up relationship statuses
read recent posts
memorise anniversaries
find information on Google
stalk family members
scroll through who liked what
Then they stand on stage and “miraculously” deliver details that appear impossible to know.
The audience thinks they’re witnessing something extraordinary.
In reality, they’re witnessing research, not Spirit.
These mediums are destroying mediumship faster than any sceptic ever could.
Because when everything is too perfect, too quick, too polished, too precise…
the old saying applies:
“If it’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t.”
Real mediumship is not flawless.
It is not instant.
It is not rapid-fire perfection.
It is not a stream of exact facts without effort.
That level of accuracy comes from Google — not the Spirit world.
Research Mediums Create Impossible Expectations
When people see a research medium deliver a “perfect” reading, they now expect every medium to work like that.
So genuine mediums look “weaker” because:
we don’t know every detail instantly
we don’t give 20 hits in 20 seconds
we don’t have a list of their life events preloaded
Research mediums raise the bar to a level that no genuine medium can — or should — match.
They are poisoning public expectations.
They are redefining mediumship as a performance of stolen information.
Research Mediums Are Why Sceptics Don’t Believe in Mediumship
Sceptics think mediums cheat.
Why?
Because many do.
The exposed frauds of the past didn’t do as much damage as today’s “research mediums” who access your entire life online before you even walk into a venue.
Sceptics assume:
“All mediums must be doing the same thing.”
And honestly?
Given how many are doing it, you can’t blame them.
Anyone With a Phone Can Fake Mediumship Now
Social media has made it effortless for fakes to gather information.
What used to require accomplices and overheard conversations can now be done in minutes:
scrolling a Facebook timeline gives enough details to fill a whole reading.
Mediumship is now competing with digital detectives.
And the public rarely knows the difference.
Fakery Thrives Because Genuine Mediums Stay Silent
Most authentic mediums refuse to speak out.
Why?
Because they fear:
backlash
being called jealous
being accused of “low vibration”
being labelled negative
creating conflict
Meanwhile, the fakes grow louder, richer, and more influential.
Silence protects fraud.
Honesty threatens it.
Mediums Are Trying to Outperform TikTok, Not Spirit
Mediumship is now judged by how dramatic it looks on camera.
The calm, evidential, grounded professional medium gets overlooked.
The emotional TikTok medium gets worshipped.
The research medium gets booked.
This has corrupted the entire art of mediumship.
It is no longer about connection.
It’s about spectacle.
Too Many Mediums Are Addicted to Being “Special”
Some mediums can’t stand being ordinary humans with a skill.
They need to feel chosen.
Elevated.
Superior.
Gifted beyond reason.
This leads to exaggeration, dramatic claims, and fabricated experiences.
The Spirit world becomes a tool for ego instead of a source of comfort.
Mediumship Has Lost Its Identity
Mediumship is being lumped together with:
intuition
energy work
manifestation
astrology
reiki
witchcraft
therapy
Everything is being sold as “mediumship.”
This dilutes the field and confuses the public completely.
A medium connects with Spirit — not with your Instagram biography.
What Needs to Change — Now
Genuine mediums must stand together and say:
Enough of the fakery
Enough of the research
Enough of the TikTok theatrics
Enough of the ego
Enough of the manipulation
Enough of the untrained calling themselves mediums
We must reclaim the dignity of this work.
We must educate the public.
We must hold ourselves — and others — accountable.
We must stop protecting fraud out of misplaced “kindness.”
Mediumship will not survive unless the genuine stand united.
The Real Threat to Mediumship Isn’t Sceptics — Final Thoughts
The greatest threat to mediumship is not outside criticism —
it’s internal corruption.
Mediums who:
research
fake
exaggerate
dramatise
manipulate
…are slowly killing the credibility of an ancient practice built on love, healing, and evidence.
The Spirit world deserves better.
The public deserves better.
And mediumship itself deserves better.
If genuine mediums don’t protect it, nobody will.
