Why Emotionally Intense Moments Make Mediumship Stronger
Why emotionally intense moments make mediumship stronger by Psychic Medium Kristian von Sponneck

Introduction: When Emotion Sharpens the Spiritual Connection
People often assume mediumship works best when the medium is calm, detached and perfectly centred. But in reality, some of the strongest, clearest and most powerful mediumship happens during emotionally intense moments — both for the medium and for the person receiving the message. As a psychic medium with a background as a psychotherapist and specialist trauma counsellor, I’ve seen repeatedly how emotion fuels mediumship rather than obstructing it.
Emotion sharpens awareness. It breaks down barriers. It opens the heart, quietens the mind and pulls your attention inward in a way everyday life rarely allows. This emotional “opening” creates the exact conditions Spirit uses to communicate more deeply, more clearly and more powerfully.
Emotion Breaks Down the Barriers Between Worlds
Everyday life is full of barriers — stress, distractions, routine, logic, overthinking and constant mental noise. These barriers create distance between the physical and spiritual worlds. But emotionally intense moments can shatter those walls instantly.
When someone experiences grief, shock, love, confusion, heartbreak or profound longing, their emotional energy becomes more exposed and raw. In that rawness, there is a natural lowering of defences. The walls fall, the armour cracks, and what remains is a vulnerable, open emotional state. That state is exactly where Spirit can blend with the living more easily.
Emotion Pulls You Out of Your Thinking Mind
The thinking mind — logical, analytical and noisy — is the biggest obstacle to mediumship. Spirit communicates gently, subtly and intuitively, and that subtlety is easily drowned out by internal dialogue.
Emotion changes this. When you are in an emotionally heightened state, your thinking mind quietens. The focus shifts from thought to feeling, and mediumship lives in feeling. Spirit blends through sensory experience — the subtle shift in energy, the gentle pressure, the emotional signature of a communicator. When emotion takes over, those intuitive senses come to the foreground.
In emotionally intense moments, you become more feeling-based, less logical, and therefore more spiritually aware.
Raw Emotion Acts as an Energetic Beacon
Spirit is drawn to love, memory and emotional connection. When someone is experiencing powerful emotion, it acts almost like a beacon — a signal that their heart is open and their awareness is softened.
In grief, for example, the longing for connection with a loved one creates a direct emotional channel that Spirit can blend with.
In joy, love or celebration, the energy lifts, making it easier for Spirit to step in with clarity.
Emotion — whether heavy or uplifting — amplifies the spiritual “signal” that Spirit uses to make their presence known. When emotion is strong, the connection strengthens.
Emotion Creates Authenticity, and Spirit Blends With Authentic States
Mediumship falters when a person is emotionally guarded, tense or trying to control the experience. The energy becomes blocked or cloudy. Emotionally intense moments, however, strip away pretense entirely. You cannot fake emotion; it is raw, real and unfiltered.
Spirit blends with authenticity. When someone is fully present in their emotion — even if it’s painful — they are more spiritually accessible. There is no mask, no pretence, no emotional barrier. Just openness. And that openness strengthens the mediumship connection.
Emotion Heightens Intuition
As a psychotherapist, I learned that during emotional experiences, the brain shifts into a more instinctive, sensory-driven mode. This is the same mental state that supports intuition. Mediumship relies heavily on intuition — the ability to perceive subtle signals and translate them into meaningful communication.
Emotion activates intuition.
Intuition enhances mediumship.
Therefore, emotional intensity naturally strengthens spiritual communication.
Spirit Uses Emotion to Communicate Their Presence
Spirit often communicates through emotion because it is universal. Even if a person cannot see, hear or sense Spirit clearly, they can feel something shift emotionally.
Spirit may bring:
A sudden wave of calm
A rush of love
A sense of being supported
A memory that appears out of nowhere
A feeling of recognition or closeness
These emotional impressions often happen during intense emotional moments because the person is already operating on an emotional frequency where Spirit can blend.
Spirit does not cause the emotional pain or intensity — they simply use that moment to step in closer because the doorway is already open.
Emotional Moments Create Stillness After the Storm
Emotionally intense periods often come with moments of sudden stillness — the seconds after tears, the pause after a difficult conversation, the quiet after a breakdown. These moments of stillness are spiritually powerful.
When your emotions peak and then settle, you enter a state of openness where Spirit can be felt more clearly. The mind pauses. The heart remains open. The body softens.
In that stillness, mediumship becomes stronger and more grounded.
Mediums Are Not Immune to Emotion — It Can Strengthen Our Work
People sometimes assume mediums must be emotionally detached to work effectively. But mediums are human, and emotional intensity can heighten our senses too. Some of the strongest connections I’ve ever made have been during emotionally charged environments — theatre shows filled with anticipation, private readings where grief is palpable, or moments where the entire room shares a collective emotional shift.
Emotion activates all of my psychic senses:
Clairvoyance becomes clearer
Clairaudience becomes sharper
Clairsentience becomes deeper
Claircognizance becomes more spontaneous
Emotion does not block mediumship — it fuels it.
Conclusion: Emotion Strengthens the Bridge Between Spirit and the Living
Emotionally intense moments make mediumship stronger because they open the heart, quieten the mind, heighten intuition and remove the barriers that normally keep Spirit at a distance. Spirit blends through emotion, and when you are experiencing powerful feelings — whether grief, love, longing or deep reflection — you naturally move closer to the frequency Spirit uses to communicate.
It is not that Spirit comes closer during emotional times; it is that you become more open, more aware and more connected to them. Emotion transforms your awareness into a state where mediumship becomes clearer, deeper and more powerful.
